Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It is going to be the classic this year. Original maps and back to basics. Or so the rumor goes...

Bikes: Lots. Mostly steel. Mostly heavy. Mostly geared, and very low, at that.

I think I might compete on a normal bike this year. I dunno.

if the streets are slippery try not to crash. especially in front of me. and try to keep all your joints in place.

If that's the case, check it out.

Yeah, I can't wait...I've got a friend who's reviving an old green Schwinn Varsity for the occasion.

Hey guys I have an offical report: Talked to Mike, the race organizer, and he told me the first race will be Jan. 8th, and it will be the "Ye Elston Knife" route. This route is from 1998, and can be seen on the tour.chicago.il.us website. Reg. is from 8 to 8:30 and the race is at 8:45. Gather at the Ogilvy Train Station (500 W. Madison) and bring $5. There is a flyer floating around that has much more background info, but I am too lazy to type the whole thing out so you will have to wait for an online version to appear.
