I like my mismatched bike. But I wouldn't want to buy one, agreed. Unless the front was some rediculous spinergy or something.

persoanlly i can't stand it when someone mixes nationalities of components. I mean really has any italian frame builder ever sold a bike stock with japanese components on it or vice-versa. There is a reason its just not going to work rigth.

Oh man you'd HATE my bike. I think I have 7 different countries spanning over 50 years on that thing

English Frame and seat, Japanese wheels (mismatched, shimano and sanshin), 1 french rim, 1 japanese rim, german tires, american headset and bottom bracket, italian seatpost, cranks, and stem/bars. I love it.

oh and my spokes are dutch. Mongrel bike love.

I am gonna restore it though. Eventually.

I have seen plenty of Colnagos with Dura Ace.

my casati's got all italian parts (except tires) but i got it like that.
my mercier on the other hand...it's got some french parts, but it also has japanese pedals and a handlebar, british *cottered* crankset, italian seat, and god-knows-what-they-are wheelset. i like it. it's my beater. plus finding french-sized parts for it is really a pain in the a$$.

Most of the Euro-Pro teams that race on Colnagos are equiped with Shimano. This has been the case for quite some time.

I was, but it seems as though my light hearted jab at the absurdity of matching compulsions went a bit over the heads of people here.

So I guess silver spokes on one wheel and black spokes on the other wheel aren't cool either?

Since my fixie is largely made up from parts inherited from my road bike or canibalized from my mtb, that's how it looks.

That bike will never get invited to join the country club.

If you total a front wheel and replace it with an old road front or just old parts laying arround then you end up with a mismatched wheelset.

Yeah, but you'd have to get caught between a taxi and bus headed down 5th avenue to do that... and how often does that happen? Almost never.

I couldn't agree more. I cry inside and wish that someone in Belgium would start making track components so my bike would work rigth.

im sorry...you got me hook line and sinker.

with that.....

what the hell man? how freaking ******** are you? do you eat paint chips with aids on them?
how about "hey i personally cant stand it when bike parts DONT work at all!"
it aint you im gettin' at man. i just really really really really really HATE that addittude. ive heard that statement before and it sucks....yeah im pretty bitter about only being able to buy bike stuff here and there but a bike that is visually cohesive usually takes the cake. i don tknow about you but if i see a nice bike of any make im not going to stand there and break it down part by part.

thats just FANBOY activity. might as well jizz your trousers when you see "unreleased" leaked shots of the new psp, ps3, or anyother nerdy game platform. oh man. i took the bait.

It wasn't supposed to be bait dude. I figured the statement was so patently ridiculous as to clearly show the absurdity of matching components. I guess I underestimated the culture of conspicous consumption that reigns in the "fixie scene" and allows people to take that statement seriously.

right right. i hear it man. im just sick of this stuff....just ridewhat you have. sometimes it feels like the fix scene is coming to the point where its not unlike the kids who sit around and talk about how such and such shoes or ball will make them play better. oh man...what amount of cash i would give to have a kid on a beater beat out someone on an overpriced ride.

but like i said...hold what i say to a grain of salt....im a bitter poor student who's money goes into survival and supplies......i hate my poor life.
