I quit smoking
Today is day 2.
I quit:
1. because of my bikes
2. for myself and my family.
It feels good so far.

Good for you, it will make you a better person. I quit in 1989. I used to ride my track bike for hours all over town and I used to ride hard. I'd come home sit on the couch and have a smoke. It got to the point where it just didn't feel right anymore. Depending on how long you have smoked 2 days is good but you got a ways to go. I smoked for 2 years and after about a week I felt free and then by a month it was completely gone even at the bar with a drink. Keep it up...

its been 6yrs for me, I quit on my 26th birthday, so far the hardest thing I have done in ny life thus far.
Food and beer will taste so much better, plus you can ride alot longer without getting winded, and you dont smell like @!%# anymore..

Congrats so far, and keep it up. Withdrawal symptoms peak at 48-96 hours. Use willpower. After that, it gets more insidious. Don't forget that you will always be a smoker like alchoholics are always alchohaulics. Dont go back.
My quit date is Sunday. I have patches, zyban, a system of bike-related rewards for myself, and I'm not going to drink any alchohol for two or three months. I've quit several times, and I dont want to do it again any more than I have to.

Great!
I hadn't smoked since Sat, but I broke down last night. Maybe we should start a little BFFG support group.

Been 3 1/2 years non-smoking over here. It's a kinda long process, you might get cranky, but well worth it. Lots of money saved, does WORLD'S for your fitness levels, etc....
Congrats!
Congrats!

Thanks everyone.
Good Luck, gbd.
10 years at a pack a day. Never tried to quit before. Hopefully won't have to ever try again.

way to go! stick with it. it ain't easy but it's worth it.
i quit last in 2002. i've been doing well, but i still CRAVE when i'm drinking heavily. i think that'll never go away. you're drinking hard, you want a smoke, it happens.
i think the key is you can't have that "just one" at the bar, cuz that's how the whole thing gets going all over again.

Good luck to everyone quiting or about to. Congrats to those that have.
I'm starting tomorrow. I could really use the support group this weekend. Hanging out with my in-laws and they smoke. Then again I'll be out on a farm, so no quick trips for a pack should even things out. And I'm not picking up a menthol.

congrats all quitters. the withdrawal is the worst in the first couple days. after that it's about breaking the habit, and the oral fixation (no oral fixation jokes come to mind, but please somebody run with this)
stressful times are the worst. be prepared. if you don't drink coffee, good for you, but this might be a time to make an exception.
also, when i first quit i made a point of taking "smoke breaks." what i missed even more than the nicotine was stepping outside, taking a step back from what i was doing, and chilling for a second. so i kept doing it, just without the cigarette. hope that helps.
three years for me, and it's worth it.

earlier this year I took up smoking because I was getting all stressed out at work, and it calmed me down, dumb reason to start I know... after a month of smoking, I went for a short ride to the grocery store, and when I got back I was out of breath, which was way out of the ordinary, so I made the decision, which do I enjoy more, riding a bike or smoking? I think that's the third time I've quit smoking....

I quit a month and a half ago. It's freakin great!
If you use yahoo widgets they have one that counts the days since you quit. It also adds up how much money you've saved, how many cigs you haven't smoked, how much nicotine and tar you haven't ingested. It's pretty encouraging seing that on the desktop.
Good luck to all you guys quitting now, it was hard, but a very good choice.

That's the single most important thing you can do for your health. Congrats. I diagnose lung cancer on a daily basis. Its a horrible disease. You are doing the right thing for yourself and your family.

Everyone's also going to be diff. It took about a year and a half, but that was pretty much the point where I could 116% sauced and not give a **** about cigarettes.
Takes time and mental effort, as does everything worth doing.
