Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This video lampoon of Ullrich kind of harsh...

yet it is very funny and I'm sure Jan would laugh at it!

I totally love Ullrich because he is an "everyman" cyclist like all of us working stiffs who likes to let himself go in the off-season and enjoy life now and then...kind of like cycling's version John Daly...everybit as (if not more) talented at the workaholic/perfectionist Tiger Woods, but likes to smell the roses/ smoke a cigarette and over-eat more often than not.

Ullrich an 'everyman' cyclist?

Ullrich was born with a natural talent, which has brought all the perks & riches he could have ever have dreamed of growing up in the DDR.

Ludo Dierckxsens is an 'everyman' cyclist: he grew up a simple kid in Belgium, with a modiucm of talent, raced his bike, never got a contract, spray painted vans at a DAF and still raced his bike, then got his chance late in his career.

I always wanted to have a cycling shirt with Krispy Kreme or a pizza place as the sponsor. I'm sure Jan would love it.

I'd dig a Krispy Kreme jersey. The NYC TA Century had KK's at the first couple of rest stops last year.

That was an awesome parody of Ullrich's early season (un)preparedness. He looks great now, though, and is my sentimental favorite to win the Tour this year. Hop Jan, hophop!!!

When I used to race Mountain Bikes we had a bunch of friends who like to "live it up" too. We always joked that we were going to try to get a sponsorship from La Z Boy recliners.

You know, a jersey from a BBQ pit would be totally awesome.

That should make us all feel better. It's not that we aren't as good s Ullrich, it's just we choose NOT to be!

That's nonsense. Especially in cycling. you can have all the will, desire and heart in the world, it doesn't help if you don't have the genes.
