Just got my Proofide. What a mess!
I didn't know that Proofide was such a soft and liquidy substance. Luckily I opened the can really slow. Still I had to do a little clean up work just to get the can to close again. Did I get a bad batch or is this the way it is when it's sent through USPS mail and takes 5 business days worth of heat and abuse?

The batch I got was soft and vaseline like. Not so liquidy that it made a mess when I opened the can, but after working with it for a bit it did become more liquidy and messy. If you opened it up right after you received it, then I'm willing to bet the heat softened it up.

Yeah it's hot here in Miami so I guess that did it. I called the place that sent it to me and they told me that it's normal for that to happen if it's hot where it's shipped to but that it won't compromise the integrity of the Proofide. That's all I needed to know.

Interesting. What is it good for, since I never heard of the stuff before.

It's for softening and protection leather saddles. I just recently got a Brooks saddle and they recommend you use the stuff to keep it soft and to protect it.

It's ONLY this way when it is hot. In cooler weather, it is way thicker and easier to work with. You could put it in the fridge. Personally i don't use it when it is hot. I just wait till cooler weather.

Well unfortunately since I live in Miami, cooler weather is hard to come by. However I did put it in the fridge to at least keep it in a solid state. And I went ahead and gave the saddle a coat since I hadn't put anything on it yet. I've only ridden it about 70 miles but I figure it can't hurt to put some on now. Some preventive medicine.
