another squirle story
Well yesterday around 3pm or so i was coming back from some yard sales and spoted a sign for another one so i detoured to that one. After leaving that one i was headed down a local road 35th street off of ries. Well i never seen the squirle till after i toothpasted him. If yoru not familiar with that anology its when a animal gets hit head to tail by a vehical (bike in my case) and his well internal structure squirts out of his poop shoot. I hit him at about 33 to 34 mph. Im lucky im not as dead as he is. And no sorry no pics.
What is it with these fur balls and moving vehicals? Its like they all have death wishes. I shuved it off the road with my foot and then my dogs would not leave my shoes alone heh.

Don't worry. You aren't alone in this squirrel suicide war. I watched a squirrel cross the street towards me as I'm going 18-20MPH (Don't own a Cyclocomputer lol) and felt it go between the wheels and under my pedals. Got a bit squinty about that but I'm sure I didn't do much to it but bruise it.
They are just large rats.

Yeh this story dont need much in visual aids does it
Prior to this bout the only animals i killed were dozens of various bugs and a unidentified snake.
Im still suprised i didnt crash when i hit the darn thing as i know i left the ground with both wheels on impact.
Guess my years of jumping old bmx bikes wasnt a completly bad thing after all.

I ran over one on my tour back at the begining of the month...I was VERY glad he went under the tire rather than into the spokes.

I’m not sure about squirles but I believe they are closely related to squirrels.
It is the squirrel’s instinct when fleeing from a predator like a fox for example to change direction suddenly; even double back on itself so the fox runs past it. Unfortunately this tactic doesn’t work too well with bikes or cars.
Interestingly we talk of a bike handling being squirrelly. Usually when it has a very steep head angle and will change direction at the slightest movement.
PS. My website is down temporaraly June 27. Should be up by tomorrow. In the mean time check out Dave's Bike Blog

As for the squirrely handling bikes ive always called it snappy handling. I personaly like that type of handling my self. You can also performance tune your bikes handling by changing the rake on your forks. Steel you can bend them a little realy fine tuneing would be a more accurate discription as your not bending them much at all maybe a mm or 3 makes a world of diffrence though. Or swaping out forks.
I still have a fork vise thing i made years ago here some where to bend them evenly and safly. Its funny but i still remember how far i needed to bend my raleigh forks to change the rake by 1 mm heh took about 4 mm to move them 1 mm. Try doing that with your ancy carbon fiber blade forks
