Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

crank bros Quattro SL or Look Keo classic?

I've finally put together enough money to replace the clunky hand-me-down Shimano mtb pedals that are currently on my roadbike. Any opinions on the above road pedals? They're about the same price, the Looks weigh a bit less, but I've heard good things about crank bro pedals and haven't heard anything one way or the other about the keos. I prefer very little float, if that helps, and the only clipless pedals I've used in my life are Shimano mtb pedals (which I like the feel of) and Speedplays (which I hated). Thanks!

never rode crank bros, but looks are great, very solid feeling and large platform. depending on the cleats you use, you can have 0, 4ish, or 15(?) degrees of float.

Crank brothers are pretty solid and you wont have an accidental clipout at the most inopportune time. The only downside to the Quattro SL is engagement can be exciting if you are off just a bit.

Plus, CB has great customer service.

I'm very happy with my Quattro SL pedals. I put around 1500 miles on them so far and they're still sturdy. A plus if you do a lot of city riding too. Can't really say much about the Look's since I've only used SPD and CB pedals.

I've got Keo's on my road bikes and they're working pretty well for me. One-sided entry, so you need to get used to that. Disengagement is much smoother than with the SPD's I'd been used to...

really? the bike shop guy I talked to said it was actually easier to accidentally clipout with Crank Bros than with Looks because the Looks had adjustable tension that was higher than the Crank Bros pedals.

I've had both and I vastly prefer the Keos.

One of the easiest entry pedals I've ever used. Love my Quattros.

Just got a set of KEO's this is my third set of misc road pedals and these are superior by far. they just feel solid all around, and i don't feel like im going to pull out accidentally, like i had a tendency to do with other pedals.

I've had quattros for the last year with about 1500 miles i'm guessing on them. No problems so far and never accidentally pulled out. Clicking in is a breeze after a little practice (which is true for all pedals really).

One advantage that the quattros have over the Look pedals is that walking with quattro cleats will not wear them down due to the plastic "pontoon" that surrounds the actual cleat.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll probably go w/ Crank Bros since I'm so used to double-sided entry, plus it's on sale all over the place.

Apples and oranges.

CB don't really use spring tension the way Look/Shimano does. Unless you are twisting your ankles wildly while pedaling (which means you have a bigger problem) I don't think you could accidentally pull out.

Not counting worn out cleats of course.

I like mine. The float is centering - I prefer that to something like the Speedplays - which is non-centering.

I have Crankbrothers Candy pedals and LOOK Keo sprints. For road/track racing I much prefer the Keos. They feel much more secure. I've never accidentally unclipped from Keos but I have on a few occasions popped out of the candies. In fact I did this morning...although I have the candies on my fixed-gear commuter so I'm putting far more stress on the pedals than if it were on a road bike.

I have some Keos (sprints) and they are great. They have a solid platform and no problem clipping in or out with them. The cleats do wear some but its not that big of a deal. Just keep an eye on probikebit.com they always seem to have keos on sale and free shipping once again.

I picked the Shimano's also. I was on the fence between them and the Looks. The best fitting shoes that I found were Shimano so I went with all Shimano, although I guess it really does not matter. The Shimanos seemed to be a wider platform and I was hoping this would result in less chance of having hot spots. Also, I kept reading about the Look "squeak". I am pleased with my choice.

I had mine for over a year. I have quttro TI on my road and candy SL on my comuter. I never had any accidental clipout yet. Advantages of CB pedals over Look/shimano are double sided entry, and they can be used either with road or MTB shoes. But I like to try Look/Ultegra pedals just to see if there's any difference between small and larger platform pedals.

I have the Crank Bros. Quattro TI's. I do feel they are a little tricky to engage, but I have yet to pull out and feel they have a great grip of the cleat. I also think they are the easiest of many styles of pedals that I have tried to come out of. Highly recommend...

I just got a set of Keo Carbons on PBK for $124 including shipping! They didn't cheap out on the shipping either, I had the pedals in three business days!
