Duplex track hubs problems
I've bought 4 hubs in the previous two months that were all bad. Never used before-dual threaded FixFix. One side threads, the other side is stripped (new in the box) 4 hubs, 4 same problems. Suzue NJS, DuraAce 110mm NJS, Superbe NJS and my new Surly. High quality hubs built for 2 sided cogs, but all stripped.
And I know how to take care of my stuff, and all the things about stripping. This was done right off the factory line.
Info please, Im' pretty furious. Duplex means Duplex...If you know what I mean.

umm, did you use a bad cog? your post kind of makes it hard to figure out what you're really saying: did all 4 hubs come stripped on both sides or just one? and in that case why did you even buy them in the first place?

No, just the non-drive side is stripped and they were all new cogs. I've been threading all kinds of cogs on hubs for the last ten years, i know what im doing--And the damage was already done before i purchased these and they're new product.
And come on...you don't know what you're buying and that goes for everything. You can't thread a cog on in the store, even if they did speak your language. lol

You certainly can thread on a cog in a store if they're a decent store that lets you burrow tools, or if not, is willing to do the labor for you. Just sayin, man.

I got my Surly fixed/fixed from a kid who has broken Phil hubs in directions where there aren't usually any forces. Point being, it's survived a lot, and I still use it with cogs on both sides. In fact, I just put some new bearings in a few days ago, and it rides like a dream.
+1 something here isn't right.

Are you using correct cogs and lockrings? Are you sure the hubs are dual fixed/fixed? Do you know the threading for lockrings are reversed?

I love you guys. He explicitly states he's been threading track hubs for over 10 years (most of you haven't even been riding non-big wheels bikes for 10 years) yet you quickly ignore that and say he's an idiot. I mean, I'm not saying he is or isn't an idiot, but if you're going to completely ignore the information given what's the point of posting?

Is he saying he bought new hubs, but they came from the store stripped? In which case what exactly is the question, beside "what is the return policy like?"
Is he saying he bought these new hubs, and as soon as he put the cogs on, they stripped right off?
And if the hub is fixed/fixed how can he refer to "the non drive side" being stripped? On a fixed/fixed both sides can be the drive side, no?

I havent been wrenching for ten years but I have been doing it for a solid five. Im sorry, but there is no way he can have 4 hubs strip out and the company is to blame. It is user error, plain and simple.

OP, which threads stripped out? the ones for the lockring or for the cog? you aren't trying to put a phil wood lockring on a those japanese hubs are you? and i'm not sure what the surly hub is threaded for...

the threading on both sides of a duplex hub should be the same as the threading on every other fixed hub, this doesn't make any sense.
are you sure you're threading your cogs on in the right direction? were you out riding them and they are slipping, or how did they 'strip'?
this is definitely user error in some way.

Well FIX
I understand what you mean, but it's also possible they make the duplex faulty so you spend the money on it. (Pretty fly-by) but possible! And I don't know how they s tripped, riding a bike without a cog in place doesn't do anything and I take away any dirty/sand before putting any thread on...so It's a fact that the damage was already done before I got there.
User error...How? I've worked on bikes for the last nine years. I think I know about threading and dethreading and n ever have I ever damaged a part.

Phil, campy, gipiemme, miche use italian lockrings.
Mavic use french.
They're all different thread pitches.
you should know this after 10 years of threading cogs.
