Unused parts from ss/fixie conversions

If you converted a multispeed bike to a ss or fixie, what happened to the parts you didn't need or upgraded?

I rode most of the parts on my conversion til they died (before converting), the rest went into a parts drawer and usually my roommates at the time ended up using them for their own bike projects (or I eventually used them myself).

It depends on the parts... if a bike was a classic I would have no issue removing parts but would keep them for any future restoration, especially of they were less common parts.

With a tiger, perchance?

Throw 'em in the parts bin, and eventually go through the bin for donations.

i tossed em in the trash after my lbs told me that they didn't even want em for their parts bin.

i suppose if i didn't live in a shoebox apartment, i'd have room to start a parts bin of my own.

parts bin, then someone else who needs em if i don't.

and i really can't stand the word "cager." it's just a ******** way of trying to convince yourself and others that people who own cars are some sort of ignorant breed of sub-standard humans, and we, THE CYCLISTS, are vastly superior.

I never gave it much thought--I just read it on BF and thought it was kinda cute. I'm all for bicycles and using them as a means of transportation, but I don't want to give off an us-vs-them vibe.

Thanks for your comments, metaljim

damn i kinda came off as a dick again. not my intention; it was just an observation about the word "cager" and me thinking as i was typing. i won't edit it out of my post, cuz i still feel the same way, but that doesn't mean anyone should not use the word because of my ******* opinion.

feel free to keep using it. no one is going to judge you for it. but you can stop if you'd like.

I threw the shifters into the parts bin. Then I added a flat bar and used old mnt bike brakes levers and grips that were about 15 yrs old retrived from the parts bin and enjoying new life on my conversion.

word. then we won't have to duel with our katanas.

but seriously, recycling parts is the best way to go in my book. even if you don't want it and think it's junk, there's someone out there who can use it. i got a cheap forte carbon fork from a neighbor this way. he didn't want it, and i had a set of easton riser bars i wasn't going to use, so since we didn't care about the value, only the useage, we just traded.

now if only my damn bike would come in, i'd have something to use the fork on.
