Grass track racing!

I just found this article on the fixed gear gallery.
https://www.fixedgeargallery.com/perth.htm
I never even really though about doing something like this but it really sounds insanely fun. Wished I lived near a bunch of you other fixers so we could find an old field, hammer in a few stakes and have at it.

When I was in high school grass track racing was a school sport. The cyclists in the school would convert their road bikes to fixes for the school sports season. I represented my house (division within the school for competition purposes, like in Harry Potter) and school a few times. It was a ton of fun!! I grew up in the Caribbean, I don't think any US grade schools encourage cycling as a sport.

Looks like a hell of a lot of fun. As soon as the old collarbone gets back in one piece, I think Schiek and I could make the trip to Philly. Maybe the same weekend as the U.S. Pro Champs?

You and Schiek? And you make the gold seat jokes?

I think you're joined at the bottom bracket...

No, but when I was in school (Boulder High '88) we had cycling as a PE class. Every spring and fall I'd ride around for an hour every day with this cute girl (can't for the life of me remember her name now) that I raced with when we were younger - for credit. Then in the two winter quarters I'd take weight training and hang out talking to Jenny Jenkins in the corner of the weight room - for credit. Aahhhhh....how I thought High School sucked at the time I cannot now fathom!

I live about 500 feet from Boulder High.
I'm moving back home to Minneapolis in a month though.

This sounds like a really cool idea, I'll keep it in the back of my mind.

I’ve never heard of it but it is something I’m going to look into starting here in Madison this next summer.
Thanks for the post!
