Brooks B-17
Hello everyone,
I am new here and have been reading all the posts about the Brooks B-17 Saddle and I am ready to buy one.
So my question is where on the INTERNET can I find the cheapest price ? Also who has a good return policy ? Just thought I would ask and see if I could save myself some time surfing the INTERNET not that I am lazy but figured you guys would know where to purchase at the best price.
Thank you for your time.

I paid $54 and change from Nashbar, during a sale, with a 20% off coupon. So ---- it just depends on how big a hurry you are.

Looks like they are over $100 at Nashbar now. Brooks also saw a large price increase for 2009, so I doubt we'll see them that cheap again.

Another vote for www.wallbike.com. It was pleasant doing business with them.

I bought both of mine from Velo Orange, who was cheapest at the time, but I see they are $88 now, so Wallbike has 'em beat.

How long, or how many miles does it take to break-in? I had a Team Pro years ago, but the bike got was stolen.
And what's the deal with the oil getting on your shorts? Any way to avoid that? ... like not oiling it, for example. I oiled mine liberally, as per the instructions back then, trying to break it in.

I've used proofide on mine 3 times so far, and at about 53 miles it's starting to feel like sitting on a pillow. I can't wait to see what it feels like at 100 miles.. or 500 miles. When applying the proofide, I only put enough on to coat the saddle, without slopping it on too heavy. After about 4 hours the proofide had soaked into parts of the saddle and there was some areas where it was still on the surface. I took a rag and wiped the saddle to distrubute what hadn't soaked in evenly and let it set again. I had to wipe it 3 times to before the saddle no longer had any residue on it. That seems to be working for me.

My first B17 took a couple of hundred miles to start to feel really good, and I think it was about 500 miles before I reached that state of Butt/Brooks Interface Nirvana where I started forgetting that the saddle was there.
The second B17 I bought was comfortable right out of the box.
I suspect that it's largely your butt getting broken in by the Brooks, and not the other way around.
