Style Man @ Bicycling Magazine
What really happened to him? Was he really fired?
I remember reading his last column and he sounded extremely bitter. He seemed to be taking a shot at Bicycling Magazine, calling it "buy-cycling" magazine. I thought that was a weird last column for him.
Then in the latest issue the editor Loren Mooney says she fired him because, "He was done. Played out. Devoid of any new insights since back in 2004..." and she calls him a "pathetic, repetitive boor."
Is this for real or fake?
Or is Loren Mooney really the Style Man?
Also, I thought the Bike Snob column really sucked. His blog entries are much funnier. I wonder if the editors toned him down.

I think Bill Strickland actually wrote the Style Man column. It was always intended to be kind of a tongue-in-cheek thing. To me it was a long-running joke that wore very old many years ago. I'm glad "Style Man" is gone.
Is it just me, or does anyone else here wish that Bicycling Magazine would grow up and be the publication it was 10-12 years ago... Seems more like Mad Magazine sometimes...

I liked style man, it was a funny column. It was about the only thing worth reading in that magazine.

I think Snob's column was dead on. I don't need any bike appreciation month. Every day is bike day for most of us.
Style Man was fine, but definitely played out.
We have enough of that here on a daily basis.

Unfortunately I got into cycling too late to see when "Bicycling" was more than just advertising hype.

I have been reading cycling mags for the last 6 months, and have decided Bicycling magazine is just plain juvenile, and will not be reading it any more.
On the other hand, I like Cycling Plus. Granted it's from the UK but at least they don't write for the lowest common denominator.

Since I started reading Cycle Sport America and (less so) Pro Cycling, I just don't get around to opening Bicycling much anymore. Sometimes I look at it for the ads and pictures. The Bike Snob article was totally weak sauce; he's gonna lose his blogosphere credibility, whatever the hell that is.

Pretty sure Bill Strickland is not Style Man. I did find he has another blog not on the bicycling.com domain though. https://billstrickland.wordpress.com/

Thus if you first read it 10-12 years ago, the first year probably seemed not too bad.
After you've read it for a couple of years it wears thin.

Bicycling is like a catalog. The reviews have no credibility (everything is good), the articles no substance.
As for the style man...meh..who cares.
