Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kudos to Trek for this iteration. Also they fixed the goofy seat mast of the previous Madone design.

Very nice indeed my little phardo. I like it. Did you see that Di2 battery clipped to the underside of the bottom bracket? You can't even see it on the bike. How slick is that?

Now if it wasn't for all those blasted Bontrager (cringe) components, they'd have something, but I could live with a Bontrager (cringe) stem, bars and wheels. I really like that Project One business. Those Trek boys do it right, you have to hand it to them. Brilliant product design, execution, marketing. They aren't the biggest in the business here in the US for nothing.

That is a great location for the Shimano battery. I like how all the cables are hidden and the entry points are well executed. I also like the fact that you don't have to use zip ties to attach the wheel and cadence sensors. I agree that the components would be better if they weren't Bontragger everything. I don't mind the Hed wheels with the Bontragger label.

You may be pleased to know that I bought a Cervelo P3 after going to Cervelo eRide. It is a fine TT bike and great value.

Yeah, ok. Stiffness, weight, looks, that's all just marketing haze.

I think you're in the wrong forum. Commuting is down the hall.

You know what, I've seen the light. You're so right. Why should I ride this 16 lb, stiff, beautiful, aero bike when the 30 lb, noodly, ugly, handles like a brick bike from Wal-Mart will do just as well.

Yep, it's just a logo. Cervelo is actually the same company as Huffy, it's just a different logo they slap on and jack up the price.

What's wrong with Bontrager? Their high end stuff is pretty damn nice. If it's good enough for any pro it is plenty good enough for me.

that's what i'm sayin... high end parts are high end parts... the only real difference is the logo printed on them.

I agree ... I've ridden with a lot of different high end components over the years. As far as performance, I wouldn't give you a a nickle for the difference.

Serious question for the people crapping on Bontrager components: At a given price point (ie: $<100 aluminum bars/stem or carbon bars/stem) what makes Bontrager objectively inferior to 3T/Ritchey/FSA/Deda, etc.? Since stiffness and weight were mentioned, is it significantly heavier?

Personally, I'm not all that concerned with looks if everything else is good, especially when you're talking about a handlebar that's 75% covered in tape anyway.

fwiw, my Trek 2.1 is the only road bike I've owned, so I don't have much to compare it to, but I'm very happy with my Inform saddle and like the shape of my VR bars.

Mostly my dislike for Bontrager comes from their wheels. Their lower end wheels are junk and their higher end wheels are just HED wheels rebadged as Bontrager.

I don't get it. I thought they fixed the seatmast issue prior when the new frame design was released for '08? What has changed for 2010?

Incorrect. The Aeolus wheels begin with Trek's OCLV carbon rim, to which a fairing, which was designed in collaboration with Steve Hed, is bonded. Trek is ditching the paired spoke configuration, though I've ridden many thousand miles on such wheels without issue.
