PX-SBW, the Oddest PX-10

Arrived today my 1988 PX-SBW or Peugeot Sante
The brake cables were seized in the housings so I pulled them out, other than that and the ghastly dent on the top tube (which isnt as bad as the pictures make it look) it's in great shape.
Needs new bearings in the plastic headset and cleaning mostly.

This image accurately reflects the color of the frame.

Pearlescent hubs, Neat-o

Shifters feel really good and precise, my first biopace bike also

Feels hefty at about 22 lbs
coming next, mauve seat leather, white bar tape, and riding.

I like! The Sante group should clean up well. Try a little rubbing compound on the scuffs of the components. The headset is not plastic, it just has some plastic covers over it. Should be a rather enjoyable bike.

Thats actualy avery nice bike. In Europe its very common to find very high end framesets with entry level components, you'll find alot of Reynolds 531 and Columbus SL/P/X bikes with Shimano 105 level groups or the Campy equivelant. I guess they called thses 'club' bikes. They were something a that would be competitive from a handling, sprinting climbing perspective but more economical from the $$$ perspective.

I think PXSBW stands for:

PX = PX10
S = Sante
BW = color code

I'm still looking for a simillar Peugeot in 54cm.

In the same year you could get the
PY-CAW (Campy chorus group)
PY-MAW (mavic group)
PX-SISW (shimano 600 group)
PX-CAW (Campy NR group)
I'm not sure why they are all suffixed with "W"
They were all full 531p frames and forks.

Looks a hell of a lot better then a '70s PX, if you ask me.

Whatever you say Kurt...
Then again, I'm getting partial to the looks of old French bikes.

From velobase:
Introduced after the Aero style components in the mid 1980s, Sante was positioned below Dura Ace and above Ultegra 600. This group was intended to be a stylish semi Pro level package.

Good luck finding a replacement cap for the DT shifter cable hole!

I found an Olmo at a garage sale that the owner had built up with an NOS Sante group. It was gorgeous! But he was asking $1450....at a garage sale!

Raleigh tried something unusually similar for their 1970 catalog:
