Never Ending Quest for the Perfect Saddle...part duex.

So, I came across a new saddle that I hadn't seen before and haven't heard anyone here speak of. It's a V-Flow Max from John Cobb Cycling.

https://www.cobbcycling.com/cart/V-Flow_Max_C1P4.cfm

It's not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but it is very user friendly. I have had it for a couple of weeks and today I got 40 miles on it so I'm ready to report on it.

The first 30 minutes or so are just like any other saddle and then it turns to pure comfort. It has a 180 day money back satisfaction guarantee...no questions asked. It also comes with an installation DVD and tools to install it. They recommend adjusting it to about 5-6° nose up but I found that about 3.5° up is perfect for me, which is very high for me. It is a little odd looking though. I love it.

out of curiosity, is the nose of that thing as wide as it looks? IMO, the only reason we have noses on our saddles is for control, you don't really sit on it so it should be as narrow as possible. The only usable trainer at the gym has a saddle that looks a lot like that, and the wide nose drives me nuts.

My Specialized Toupe is 1.75" at the nose...and this is 2.25 at the nose. I don't notice it, and you will sit differently on this than a regular saddle.

So, aside from being funny looking, what does it do differently than a more traditional saddle?

It has a firm, yet abundent foam. And the design puts you in sort of a craddle. All I can say is it works for me, and if you can try it for 180 days how can you go wrong?

I have used the V-Flow Plus for about 4 months and it was pretty comfy from the get-go but it took about 2-3 rides before it disappeared beneath me -- which for me means it was a perfect choice. These guys know what they are doing.

What cyclinfool said. Whatever works for you is what matters. Every butt is different. My butt likes a Brooks. That doesn't mean yours will.

Yep, I have a B-17 that I can't ride 10 miles without pain.

40 miles isn't much. Let us know how it fares on a century and in hilly terrain vs. flat (some saddles seem to do well on one but not the other).

Are you doing the Hemet Century in April? I haven't signed up yet but this time I am looking forward to it. I don't have saddle issues anymore but that one does look interesting. Once again I see a lot of perineum relief so if the sit bone area works for you that should as well. If the nose doesn’t bother you then you should be OK. My Smp nose is between 1.25 and 1.50 inches wide but I have fat thighs so anything wider might not work.

What does that saddle weigh? My Saddle goes about 250 grams.

Not ready for the double? Don’t worry I am not either but at least after getting my new frame I started thinking about it. Maybe not this year but I am planning on giving it a try. I also want to start planning for the Wildflower Century in Chico.

My butt likes a Brooks too, it's a wonderful thing not having to lube up and still get those nasty friction burns anyway from coarse textured saddles.

Just for reference what does your Brooks weigh?

A B17 is supposed to weigh about 540 grams. That's less than a full water bottle.

Is your Toupe 130 mm? Noticed on Cobb's website that all of his saddles are 130 mm. I ride a 155 in the Toupe. Would I still be a candidate fro the V Max?

I was on the 155mm Toupe and wondered about the narrower Cobb saddle too, but it fits nicely. This is a different geometry and design that had been an evolution in progress.
