I'm getting ready for a bike vacation.
I can not find the arm warmers I used last weekend, or the pricey ex-officio underwear I just bought especially for this trip.

I, of course, also lose my glasses and car keys almost daily.

Join me in my pain. What unlikely items have you lost or misplaced lately?

I sure hope I don't jinx myself, but I tend not to lose many things. It's a fact that annoys the people who live with me. I always know where my car keys, wallet, glasses, hearing aids, cell phone, and pocket knife are. I can pretty much get by with just those things. So anything else that's difficult to locate, isn't lost; it's just temporarily misplaced.

I do confess, however, to recently spending over two hours trying to figure out where my "misplaced" rain jacket was.

i was just complaining that i always lose swim goggles. so I bought a new pair the other night and have since lost those as well. never even took them out of the packaging.

Missing: One pair of Pearl Izumi shorts.

I had seven pairs of PI - now I'm down to six. I never put bike clothes in the dryer so the PI's couldn't have gone where so many missing socks have gone. Almost $100.

I never lose stuff- I just misplace it- sometimes for a very long time.

Between last Autumn and spring- I "Lost" my camelback. I actually started looking for it in November but by March I gave up and went and bought a new one. Then just after I cleared the bike shed-Everything out and put back piece by piece- My Son-in-law found it. Covered in mud and the Mouthpiece chewed to bits. Now last Autumn that Camelback was Sterilised and the sack was washed.

Think the sock fairy is getting his own back.

Lost a set of keys for around 9 months or so. What a pain. Eventually found them under the driver's seat on the floor board, exactly where I had left them.

When I bike commute I'm guaranteed to leave / forget at least one item (wallet, phone, badge, lunch, etc.). Today it was the wallet.
When I work on bikes I'm constantly putting down a tool (most often hex wrench) and then not finding it as little as 30 seconds later.
I'm always spinning off a nut while bench buffing, having sprung loaded parts detonate, and loose nuts, bolts, etc. drop into my 3' too drawer or bounce away along the floor. These are always lost.
Early this spring I bought some winter style full fingered gloves that have a mitten style covering that can be pulled over the fingers. I have no idea where it went.
I've never had to search for weight I've lost because it always finds me.

My patience. Lose it too often.

Losing my patience makes me lose my cool.

That leads to lost cordial relations and lost affections. Not to mention a loss of dignity and self possession.

Today I was doing non-wrenching while transferring old stuff to my new bike.

1. Put the multi-tool down God knows where, looked and looked, got out another multi-tool. 30 minutes later, came to computer to order another one and there it was by my computer. Those multi-tools are sneaky things.

2. Got out a handle bar end from a new package of bar tape to fill in where I had mounted the bar extensions. Took it to the bike - too big. Went back to my storage area and couldn't find the new package to replace. BUT, I did find two new handle bar ends that DID fit. Then, finally, I found the new package and put the non-fitting end back with the handlebar tape. Those handle bar ends are sneaky things, also.

3. A couple of years ago was mtn biking around Redstone, CO, and lost my keys. Fortunately my wife had her extra set, and we got back to Glenwood Springs OK. Looked and looked and looked. Went back the next day, knocked on the ranger's door - and there they were. However, I had already had a new computer chip key made - those things are expensive!!

4. Have to add - I found my Topeak Road Morph, which I was claiming someone ripped off - it was right there in the sack that I took with me when I left the LBS a few weeks ago, taking the stuff off the bike to be fixed, so it would not get lost at the LBS!!

So, now I am going to take the multi-tool back to the work area and watch it closely to see when it grows its legs!!!

There is a huge difference between 'lost' and 'misplaced'!
Misplaced: you'll find it eventually. Ex: 'Were'd I put those darn car keys now?'
Lost: you'll never see it again. Ex: 'Lost my virginity at age 12!'

Well, you never know for sure what has been "lost" - except for your example. I mean - everything is somewhere. It is just a matter of getting your body and that missing item together at the same time. So, I guess, until the final reaper, everything is really just "misplaced."

I swear, if it wasn't for my lovely wife, I would lose my butt on daily basis. Ever lose your glasses only to find them on your head? Ever lose your keys only to find them clipped to your belt loop? These examples show how oldtimers disease creeps in and bites you on the butt that you just found but will probably lose again shortly.

I often lose my cycling glasses but I usually find them under my helmet
