The bike search for my girl friend continues and as the weeks roll by she's getting less and less particular. Luckily today I noticed a price drop on Green 1990 Schwinn Voyageur touring bike.







My searching around in BF's seem to indicate that they were Japanese made (Panasonic?) solid tourers it's got Columbus tubing but even with the picture of the sticker I'm not positive as to what grade (TOTAL n00b here). Assuming the bike fits her properly and is in good shape 200 bucks too much?

Yep. I have the same bike in the 25" size. Same color. The stamp on the headbadge dates mine to 1987 (can't remember the specific date). This link is useful. Mine came with BioPace cranks and 175mm arms. I was pleased to drive 90 miles and pay $135 for it despite the rust. I'm going to have it powder coated.

I have read that Columbus Tenax is actually SP tubing that Schwinn rebranded. I don't know if that is true, but it doesn't matter to me. From what I gather 53-56cm frames sell quicker and for higher prices than other sizes. I'd say that $200 can't be too far off. It'll make a great bike if a touring bike is what she's after.

+1 Great deal. A steal as a matter of fact. These bikes were the only real touring bikes made in mass production with Columbus SL/SP ("Tenax = "consumer grade" SL/SP).

Depending on the size it is either SL or SP but consumer grade (i.e. not as well finished as the branded SL or SP).

Going with the GF to go check it out today, the only thing holding her back (besides potential fit issues) is if she does indeed want a touring bike. Her last bike was a SS Sekine and earlier she had been looking at a few fixies so this is a different direction entirely. Still we'll see how she feels post test-ride. If nothing else it would be great for the MS ride we're doing next month.

just a follow up, the GF decided not to get it. It was just a tad too large for her that coupled with her lack of enthusiasm for a touring bike. So if anyone near by is interested...
