Schwinn Prelude?
I've seen a couple of these frames selling pretty cheap recently (around $100). They say Columbus tubing and they look pretty nice, so I'm wondering why they're going so low. I've been wanting to start a road bike project so I was thinking I might try to nab one.

Nothing wrong with them, but when you can get a complete Prelude for about $225 to $250 around here in pristine, ready to ride condition, a frame set only has minimal value. Consider what you get with a complete bike: wheels, saddle, seat post, bb, crankset, headset, tires, tubes, shifters, derailleurs, pedals, bar tape, calipers, brake levers, cables and housings, chain, cassette, handlebars, and stem for $225 to $250. Can you find all of those parts for $125 (assuming you started with a $100 frame)? Only the main frame is Columbus by the way, the stays are cromoly, and fork is high ten steel (1986, 1987 and 1988). The Prelude is the bottom of Schwinn's Tenax product line (still really nice).

Thanks for the info! I haven't seen any completes in my area, just a few framesets.

I have an '86 which has different geometry. I think the angles are 72 and 72 versus more race oriented 73 73 in '87 and beyond. I bought mine complete for $125 in pretty good shape. I have upgraded it to 9 speed and upgraded most of the componentry and wheels over the last couple of years. I use it primarily for long distance riding (not racing) and it works very well in that application. It is one of my favorite bikes!
