The Nyack Ride loses its one Tifosi
Glen, a local guy who comes out on the Nyack Ride, lost his Dad, who passed away this past weekend. His father used to be out there on the fastest part of the Nyack Ride every weekend with a huge American flag and a cowbell cheering us on. He was the Ride's one and only Tifosi. He's been out there for the past several years on Sunday mornings.
Reports are that the Nyack Ride got to the spot where Glen's Dad used to cheer us on yesterday and they all stopped while Glen said a few words in memoriam. If I had known that was going to happen I would have been there, I would have passed on the race.
Very sad. Very classy of the ride to stop there to remember him. He will be missed.

stole your bike
Sad to hear. It must have been awesome to have someone cheer you on during a group ride where you least expect it. My condolences.

Tifosi, tifoso, it's all Italian to me. I'll miss the cowbell and the big flag as we roll past @ 30 mph (that's the fastest part of the ride).

Glen and I both went to that school (Northern Valley HS in Demarest). Glen graduated in 1974, I graduated in 1975. We know a lot of the same people. Another classmate of ours, Glen Fouch (surfer dude from NYC and Long Island) shows up on that ride sometimes too.

And to think that I was expecting a thread about your sunglasses when I clicked on the title.
It's great that Glen's dad showed so much support and enthusiasm.

I imagine that Glen's dad saw it as much more than a way to pass time in the afternoon as well.

May he rest in peace. Peace apart from his cowbell that is! The world needs more cowbells!
Touching tribute from the group.
Thoughts with Glen and his family.
I like that a guy comes out to support his son's passion even when the son is in his 50s. F'n "A"!

Thanks for conveying that Pcad. I never know what to say when a loved one is lost. But focusing on a great thing like his devotion to supporting his son so consistently is truly touching.
