KCNC Ti Skewers
Just saw a set of these on the bay. Looks like an easy way to shed a 1/4 pound without spending tons. Anyone have any experience with these? Are they safe?

i prefer closed-cam skewers like shimano's. i have a set of these (bought from ebay, shipped from asian, fwiw) and the rear would unscrew from the lever side as well as the non-lever side. on a ride, i had my rear wheel get caught by a crack in the pavement, and the wheel got pulled out of the drop out. since then, i clamp these down as hard as i can, and the rear still becomes loose when i mash out of saddle, not quite dropping the wheel but the wheel slips enough to give me tire rub. maybe it's a QC issue but like i said, i prefer the closed-cam skewers like shimano.

I have those exact skewers only in red. Sure they're safe. the wrench at my LBS said just tighten them a bit tighter that you do skewers that are not that light weight.
** I got mine off ebay too, but from a bike shop in the mid west. I didnt get the ones from china as i thougth they were knockoffs and probably not safe. they also had the old design which was updateed a while ago.

I have some cheap ones I bought for under $20 on eBay. I weighed them and they are 80g for the set. I haven't had any issues with them except that when I unscrew the front one, it'll unscrew from the lever side. I just added a bit of Loctite and it was fine.

I have a set of genuine KCNC ones, not knockoffs. They work well. You do need to use a bit more force when closing the lever, but that's because the levers are shorter than normal.

I've got the latest gen. Zipp Aero titanium skewers. They weighed in at 48 grams for the pair and work like ordiary skewers. They clamp on tightly and stay tight.

I've been using them for over 2 years without a single problem. The finish holds up well. I weigh 170 lbs and ride 6-7000 miles a year.

Make sure you buy genuine KCNC skewers and you'll have no problems. They're a work of art really- heli coil inserts (if my memory is correct), brass inserts for the ball & socket, stainless springs. I've had mine for 2 years without any issues and my front wheel is pulled on/off almost daily...

Price is a good indicator, they generally go for $65 or so. Anything new for under $50 is suspect. When I was looking, these guys had the best price and is who I ended up buying from: https://cgi.ebay.com/New-KCNC-Ti-Skew...item5640c78c28

I have them. They work pretty well, but the QR's have no Teeth on them so they can slip unless you use some elbow-grease when you put them on.
The only thing I don't like is that grit can get in the cam mechanism really easily.
They are neat in that they ramp up clamping force right prior to them being completely closed. Once closed they let off a tad. This means they are unlikely to come undone. Also their open position is straight out (as in parallel with the skewer).... so you won't ever leave your bike with them undone.
The finish seems pretty durable also.
