Mt. Diablo Ride on Christmas Eve
Bring your quad-powered carbon sled and wear your Santa hat (er, helmet)!
I've done this before and it is a nice way to get some exercise and clear your head in the crisp mountain air before Christmas.
Put in on your calendars now. Who is in?
UPDATE: THE RIDE IS ON!!!(unless the weather is really nasty)
EDIT: YOU WANT DETAILS? YOU WANT DEEEE-TAILS********** YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE DETAILS!!!!!
OK, OK, HOW ABOUT THIS:
DATE: CHRISTMAS EVE (FRIDAY)
TIME: MEET AT 9:00 A.M. AT PLEASANT HILL BART SO WE CAN CHECK OUT OUR FELLOW BFERS' MASTERPIECE! (READ UP HERE: https://www.ebbc.org/?q=node/7893)
I HOPE THAT MEANS CURTIS AND TRICIA WILL JOIN US AND PERHAPS GIVE A PRIVATE TOUR OF THE NEW FACILITIES?!?!
ROUTE: NORTH GATE OR BUST!
NO WHINING OR SANDBAGGING. (ALTHOUGH I AM REALLY OUT OF SHAPE.)
PACE: RELATIVELY SOCIAL, BUT STILL FAST ENOUGH FOR A GOOD WORKOUT. MAYBE SPLIT INTO TWO OR THREE GROUPS IF ENOUGH PEOPLE SHOW UP?
WHY MT. DIABLO? BECAUSE IT'S THERE!

Diablo is always good. With my red Santini knickers, a Santa hat is all I need to complete the look! As CCCorlew noted, a few details would help.
Don't forget the mass ride to the top on New Years Day as well.

Is this going to be a race-to-the-top hammerfest or more like a group ride?

You asked, you got it. Details above...
I figured a relatively early start would be good for folks who have a lot of other things to get done that day. That said, I could do a little earlier or later if that works better for the multitudes.

Might be in, although it's not really anything like San Bruno Mtn, I'll take any extra climbing practice I can get before Jan 1
Given those two individuals, that'll be an emphasis on the "ham"

I'm voting for later, if there's no general preference around. A later start would suit those who are ambitiously planning on riding to the start. Or just general sleeping-in. :-)

Hummmmm. Tricia is saying we have to go. I'm saying I'm weather sensitive and we'll see. Cold is OK, but I'm not doing Diablo if it's wet.

I don't think we're going to make it. Instead opting to stay local.

Put me down for a "maybe". I usually spend Xmas eve in Marin but might come-out if this ride starts early enough. I definitely need to catch-up with a few folks here on this thread as I've been riding solo for way too long now.

What's your rough guess as far as distance and total ride time? I'm interested (weather permitting) if I can get back in time for other commitments. I haven't been up Mt. Diablo yet, so a solo scouting expedition may be in order.

Here were my stats last time I did this ride:
Distance: 32.2 mi
Elevation Gain: 4,130 ft
We can take the MUP to Bancroft, which becomes Walnut, which dumps you right onto North Gate. The route is super easy to follow.
I would estimate that we could do the whole ride in under 3 hours.
Ho ho ho.

Probably a good idea, but if you don't, just be aware that the 100 yards is +15%. So, select your weapon appropriately.

Nah, don't listen to him - the climb is awesome, breathtaking, beautiful and totally doable. Yes the last little part is steep, but if you live in the bay area, you'll have come across stretches like this before, don't let it put you off
