I only had my new Defy for a week before I went in for a TKR, but I noticed at 30 mph my regular glasses were providing very little protection from the wind. The combination of the speed and limited visibility caused by the tearing made for an exciting ride.

So, can you give me some recommendations for sunglasses that will provide me with greater eye protection from the wind? I'm not worried about wether they will fit prescription lenses, since I just started using contacts.

I have used Smith for the last few years. Pretty good bang for the buck and they aren't so garishly sporty so I can wear them off the bike as well. Never was crazy about the optical quality of Oakleys, but haven't worn them in awhile, so maybe they're better now. For the sportier style, I think Rudy Project is a great brand and quality and still have a couple pair of them around...

Oakley Jawbones with Jade Iridium polarized lenses. Stay on tight over the straps of my helmet and I can switch out to the yellow lenses for night riding.

I'm a big fan of these glasses - mainly because I don't notice how good they are until I switch with somebody so they can try mine out. The lenses are very "bright" compared to your normal darken-everything sunglasses. When I put on somebody elses glasses and everything is just blacked out with no detail and then I put my Jawbones back on it's literally night and day.

The best $180 I've spent since I've started cycling. Hands-down.

I have the Jawbones and to be honest, I dont like them as much as the edges block my view a little when I turn to look behind me. Otherwise, they are quite nice.

I recently got a pair of Tifosi Paves that I like a lot - well, I did the 2.5 days I rode with them (they fell out of my jersey pocket on a climbing stage on the third day). I have ordered another pair.

Oakley's do look bulky. I'd go with whatever contador wears (and what Lance used to wear) that style seems best for peripheral vision. And I would look for knockoffs too, glasses cost too much

I agree with this sentiment. I went from cheapo Performance non-frame type glasses and it took me some getting used to with the Jawbones. Second nature to me now to just turn my head that extra degree.

Snow goggles! It's freakin' cold here right now.

Otherwise I use Jawbones most of the time since they are comfortable. I've also got some old Tifosi glasses with clear lenses for warmer night riding.

That's why M-Frames are their superior frames. No framing on the bottom or sides. Excellent coverage, and modern sweeping styling. Just a thin piece across the top.

Used by several pro cyclists, used my many marksman, used my LEO's, I was once told that one branch (can't remember which) issued these to guys working on heli pads.

Razorblades from the 80's. Thank god Ma didn't throw them out with my Vanessa Williams Penthouse when I left for the Army.
They inspire flashbacks to some folks' jetski, 'hang loose', and Vans Off-the-Wall days.

I"m wearing polarized Oakley radar paths, glasses are amazing. Doesn't feel like your wearing anything while riding.

Word. Cheap. I buy whatever is on sale at Target. These things get scratched up, sat upon, tossed about, lost, stuffed into drawers and generally abused. I refuse to spend more than about $20 on a pair of sunglasses. Just make sure they look cool. You look dorky enough wearing spandex shorts and a goofy helmet...don't make it worse with bad sunglasses.

I wear a set of Wiley-X wrap-around glasses with a prescription insert. I originally bought these to use for Service Rifle competition, but they don't sit high enough to see through them well when tightly slinged-up in prone, so I demoted them to bicycling glasses.

I've never understood this but then again my riding style may be quite different than yours. I put my glasses on, ride my bike anywhere from 2-4 hours, get back from my ride, run a lens-cloth over them and put them in their case. Done.

My Jawbones are specifically for cycling. They look freaking RIDICULOUS even for cycling - off the bike they are hideous, but that's not why I bought them.

I've got a $25 Costco pair of Puma polarized sunglasses that I toss around, scratch, sit on, etc. But for my cycling? Jawbones all the way....
