anyone have a tire recommendation for a mountain bike i'm converting to a cyclocross bike? its a 1991 gary fisher - steel frame. it has xt and xtr parts with original crank and ultegra 9 speed shifters, 26in wheels.

looking for something reasonably priced to fit my mtn bike rims. what is the narrowest tire that will fit these size rims? (xt hub, mavic xc 717 rims). thanks.

Oops cyclocrossworld appears to be sold out but you can prolly find them elsewhere.

The Schwalbe does indeed appear to be the narrowest 26 inch tire you can find, but you don't necessarily need narrow tires. Assuming you're trying to build a bike up for cyclocross racing and that you aren't in a race that has UCI requirements, you could just use the MTB tires that you have. Wider tires will be slower on smooth and hard sections of the course, but they should be faster in rough dirt and give you some benefits in handling. So in any case, you could use them, and depending on the course they could be better than narrower tires.

thanks for the tips. I'm not going to be racing it anytime soon... i'm doing triathlons right now and just wanted another avenue of cross-training besides the tri bike.

In that case, wide tires should definitely be fine.

Very, very few races follow UCI rules in the states. Those 1.35's still wouldn't be legal (assuming that's correct 25.4 mm/in * 1.35 in = 34.29 mm >> UCI limit of 32)
Just get whatever tires you want or suits your conditions.
In every one of my races there's been at least one, if not more full size tire MTB's. Some podium placers, too.

They where probably made before UCI decreased the with from 35 to 33

I still roll my 34 tubulars thou on heavy courses...
