Breathable summer shoe for straps/clips
Looking for some sort of low profile, breathable shoe for summer riding with clips/straps. Somewhat stiff sole but not a bike shoe, want to walk around comfortably too.
Sambas are probably too hot and don't fit me right (the arch hits my foot in a strange place), but that sorta shoe, just more breathable for summer. Need a bit of protection in toe so clips don't cut in but otherwise as meshy as possible. Any suggestions?

I assume the Era are similar to Vans Authentics. I wear them* and don't find them to be very breathable.
*Authentics

In for answers. My nikes are really hot :/
Also, in my experience vans have very flexible soles.

Not sure which ones you wear but they aren't the same shoe. The era has a lot more padding. I get awful blisters from the era but have no problems with the authentics, which are plenty breathable once you have worn five or six holes in each shoe

I like Asics Tigers because the meshy part lets the breeze through. The soles aren't very tough, though, so they work best with pedals like GR9s.

I'm aware they aren't the same shoe. I wear Authentics... I meant that they are probably similar in that they don't breathe well.

Yea I've seen those. I'm not sure... though I'd be interested in some experience input!
If you want a breathable shoe, you'll probably need something with a mesh upper. Shoes like the normal canvas Vans or Converses have never been very breathable for me. I find them to be very comfortable for both walking and biking, though.
I've also worn Puma 5000m and Asics Onitsuka sneakers for riding and both are comfortable and breathe better than my Vans.

on Baby Charlie Concept~
this is exaggerating a bit but i had a pair of perforated leather vans before and they always breathe-ed because of the holes. look into those.

the extra pad on top for the laces actually padded my foot against the cages and i got more of these because of this padding solution.

I usually ride in Authentics, Toms, Emerica Winos, or Sambas...My Authentics and Winos are pretty trashed from skating so they breathe well. I do not recommend the Hemp Authentics for summer riding, they are like little ovens for your feet and get super smelly after a day of riding/skating(your girlfriend will hate you!)

I don't think they're available in the US anymore though.

How about these?
I have a pair in black and they are super breathable and the sole is pretty stiff. I haven't tried them with clips and straps, but I'm sure they would work. They're Creative Recreation's Mesh Kaplan by the way.
