Burke-Gilman trail closure
Does anybody know if the trail is still open at this point? All I can find online is that construction is supposed to start in May. I need to go through that area on Saturday so if anybody with local eyes on the ground can provide an update, it would be greatly appreciated.

I last rode it this past Monday, and it was still open. I will ride through there tomorrow (Friday) -- I'll let you know what I find.

The trail is still fully open as of Thursday, 12th. I understand there have been issues with permits and obtaining a contractor, which have delayed the project. There is supposed to be an official schedule announcement posted on the project site, once the closure schedule is determined. I believe you will be fine for Saturday.

That's good to know. I was reasonably confident the trail would still be open because I hadn't seen anything about an exact closure date or construction starting but it's good to have the extra assurance. Thanks msalki.

It's still fully open as of about 7:00pm this evening (Friday 13th).

So I imagine it is either closed by now or will be by next weekend when I am considering visiting a friend in Kirkland. I live in Greenwood. Anyone have any suggestions for getting from Greenwood/Greenlake or the U-district up and around the lake? Is the trail still going to be open for part of its length? I seem to recall not seeing upcoming closure signs until around the Lake City area...

Detour route chosen for Burke-Gilman Trail closure
This may or may not answer my question (I'd still like to hear any suggestions) but after posting the above I found this:
Detour route chosen for Burke-Gilman Trail closure -

This was rather dismaying:
The detour map with turn-by-turn directions can be found on the project’s website.

This was rather dismaying:
“Users should know the detour is significantly longer, circuitous and hilly. For many riders and commuters, the best option will be to avoid cycling and ride the bus or carpool until construction is complete in approximately six months,” county officials said in a news release.
The detour map with turn-by-turn directions can be found on the project’s website.

I rode the detour today. If I was a regular rider heading north I'd take 35th (or one of the parallels) all the way from U-Village to Lake City. Also heading from Lake City down to Lake Forest Park I think I'd head down Bothell Way instead of using the detour. Down that hill you can pretty much keep up with traffic...just stay in the bike lane and fly.
Coming up the hill would likely be a different story. I think I'd look at a different route coming into Seattle. Get up towards 25th, 15th, or Roosevelt and head into the city. Not sure it's worth heading back towards 35th.

bothell was good for me yesterday, more or less. I don't know the area well, but just tried to sort of follow the shore until I got to the north tip, and then jumped on 68th.
