Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Don't hate me for asking this Ti Bike question.

I am well aware of those on the BF who are negative to the whole Bikes Direct business model, but I am interested in opinions of this Ti bike with full Dura Ace components. I've been thinking of getting a Ti bike and this looks like it's worth considering.

I am not at all negative of Bikes Direct they are fine buy the bike you cannot find a better deal anywhere else. It is a great bike with great components and the price is unbeatable, the only reason not to buy it is that something else is better for you. Notice most of the sizes are sold out because they are such a great deal.

The BD Ti frames get respect around here and most acknowledge that BD can be a good value if you know what you want and have some mechanical ability.

Get it. Here's my contribution to the BD purse. Welds not as nice as my Litespeed, but hey, for $2,099...it's fantastic!

Have it. Love it. Buy it. I've got a few thousand miles on mine and like it so well I bought the MTB equivalent too!
I never used the stock wheels but they are quite nice. I replaced with Mavic CXP33's with a PowerTap SL+.

These bikes are a great value, IMO. There are some issues-- assembly could be more thorough, for example-- but the frames are good quality, and when you consider the components, it's hard for me to see how some other more expensive bike is a better deal.

Many here tout the Lynskey Cooper as a screaming buy. Right now it is on sale for $2500. The components are Shimano 105 and FSA. For $500 less, you could get a Motobecane with Ultegra 6700 components and better wheels. If you're fine with paying an additional $500 for cachet and BF approval, then pay the extra money.

BTW I just looked at the link the link in the OP and realized he's considering Dura-Ace. As another point of comparison, Adrenaline Bikes will sell you a Cooper with Dura-Ace for $4000+.

Even though I own a Lynskey cooper and paid the premium for it, I still see the Motobecane Le Champ Ti as the bestest Titanium Value. It was top on my list when I was shopping for a Ti frame, it just so happened that I got deal on the cooper during xmas, I just could not pass up!
If you prefer to build your own bike, BD will sell you the Team frame and no fork/headset for $799. Killer price on a Ti frame!!

Just got mine and am totally happy with it.

This may be a stupid question but.....why get Dura Ace and pay that price when you can get a full Ultegra for almost $1k less? Just saying...use the money you save and buy accessories, clothing, vacation, etc.

Here's mine with Ultegra/FSA components. Same frame as what you're considering.

I got my Javelin Boca for 1500.00 with Sram Rival, carbon fork, carbon seatpost and carbon bars. Retail is 2700....it's on sale for 2400 right now. I was looking at a Tarmac with the same components for 3100....so when I stumbled on this deal I jumped on the chance to have a titanium bike. I'm glad I did because I've never seen the complete bike for that price again. The only negative about the deal was doing the research with my LBS and buying a different bike online. BUT when they heard the deal I got pats on the back. I did do the build with them and scheduled a fitting the day I brought the components in. I LOVE this bike. The moral of the story.....A deal is a deal and money is money so do what's best for you!

BD TI CX owner. Very nice bike, excellent value. Have only swapped the saddle at this point, otherwise stock.

Click the buy button.

You could also get their new Moto Century Ti in Ultegra mix for about $2099.
