material inside messenger bag

Hello everyone.

Does anyone know what types of material they use on the inside of messenger bags. I am thinking of trying to make one but don't know what material I am looking for. ALso, if you know where to get it that would be a great link as well.

Thanks,
Casey

Hypalon

My older made in USA Chrome bag looks like it is made of DuPont Hypalon.

It is often the stuff used to make rubber inflatable boats (RIBs) Maybe you can get a dead dinghy and scavenge some material that hasn't seen too much sun

Just invest the money in a good one, and by that I mean from one of the companies that specifically make them. i.e Timbuk2, Chrome, Seagull, etc.

Someone skilled with an industrial sewing machine could make a knockoff pretty easily.

I actually have a bag, but I am thinking of making one a little bit more customized for my current uses. I commute everywhere and like the quick access of the single strap, but hate the back pain. I also have to go to conferences pretty often and hate having to use one of those stupid shoulder bags for my lap top. I was thinking I could make something that could be a little more versatile. Like you could hook up a second strap and then you could hook in the should strap to make it look a little more professional. Who knows, I may end up with a new needle cushion, but if I can get the fabric at a good price I thought I may try. I have this OLD industrial sewing machine my friend gave me. In the end I am trying to build capitol for a business and if these work out I will probably start selling. I obvioulsy have a ways to go. :-). If you guys have any suggestions on what you would like to see from a commuter specific bag, let me know.

PVC tarp is used as a liner, commercial machines drag the thread thru a wax tray,
to lubricate the needle, It's also useful to recycle inner tubes ,
the rubbery stuff needs needle lube..
