What FRED gift did you get from non-cycling persons?
I got this awesome water bottle fanny pack from my Dad and his fiance with the intent to use it on a bike ride as well as a non-cycling top with the same intent. Boy was it hard to hide my disgust with a smile.
In the summer I got a runners top with the same intent from my sister but it was from a garage sale so it was cool.
Number 1: there are at least 1 bike shops in every town in the twin cities.
Number 2: most people that work there should know what a roadie needs.
Number 3: they have seen my full battle gear numerous times for 5 years now.
Number 4: why are my family so ********? its been 5 years and they still don't know how easy it is to get me decent cycling swag.

I was not disappointed this year as I left a browser window open with a gift idea clearly visible.
Guess what! That's what I'm getting (it was back ordered, so nothing to unwrap on the day).
Oakley glasses with clear-to-black transitions lenses so that I go out for a ride early in the dark and not need to carry a second set of glasses for when the sun comes up.

I say take it with you on a nice hike and consider yourself loved by your thoughtful family who tried to get you some bike swag and missed the mark. Strap it on and head for Disneyworld. It's all good. Or put it lovingly into your "Garage Sale" box and spread the fredly love.

To the OP...maybe you can use that if you go hiking or if you get into ultramarathoning? =p for my gift being 6'3'' and 190 lbs (already pushing being "average"), maybe I could get a morning coffee for 3 months?

My family has learned- don't go there- either ask or just give money. When friends/co-workers ask me about cycling gifts for their friends, relatives... I tell them they're best bet is a gift certificate to whatever shop they use, but don't try to buy them something. It NEVER works.

In my opinion you should take what is givin and be happy you got anything at all. I find it tastless to ask someone to give money if they had something else in mind. The Holidays are not what they used to be.

I'd love to see the price, link and hear from you how good they are. Looking for decent transition lenses myself, so I don't have to wear 2 pairs of glasses if I get caught by dark fall.

I find that sometimes the crappiest gifts are the ones you cherish the most. You can tell they really were thinking about you, and even though it might not be what you wanted, (or even ever use...) you can tell they really love you.
