I don't deserve a Lynskey...
....but I'm buying one anyway!!!
Well, just over a year ago, I was ready to buy a new bike. Instead, I got cancer. Over the past year, I've spent 65+ days in the hospital for 14 rounds of chemo and another 50+ on the sofa recovering. Also, they took my right hamstring (along with the tumor). It's been a LONG year, but I'M DONE!!!! Feels great!
So, before anything else can go wrong, I decided to buy a Lynskey. I don't deserve it, but I want it....so I put a deposit on an R230 this morning. I won't get it until June , but I guess it's worth the wait. June seems so far away!!! I ordered it with the basic 105/mix (cheaped out on the cranks and brakes). It's really the Columbus day Cooper special, but with a the R230 frame and industrial mill finish. I basically put everything I could into the frame. I can upgrade bits later (and virtually everything leaves room for upgrades!). That's ok, though. I'll have the R230 as the foundation for many years to come.
2012 R230 Large
Industrial Mill Finish
White Decal Set
Easton EC70 43mm Rake Fork
Orbit Equipe Black 1-1/8"
105 Road Kit
Omega Compact Crankset w/BB-4000 175mm
FSA Omega Compact Road Handlebar 44cm
110 FSA OS-190 Stem 110mm
Gossamer Brake Caliper Set Polished Black
FSA SL-280 27.2 SeatPost
FC-SD-Selle-ItaliaXO Selle Italia XO Flow - Black
Tape Cork Black
Spacer Headset Spacer Kits
RD-60 Wheelset w/Rim Tape and QR
Kenda Tires & Tubes
Pix to follow (in June!) Dang that seems so far away! Until then, I'll start building back up on the old Sherman Tank - the '97 Rockhopper!

In all fairness, any extra out of our regular pay has gone to, and will continue to go to med bills. I have insurance, but our annual out of pocket is steep. I'm funding this entirely through ebay. In a previous life, I was a photographer/video producer. I don't do much video anymore, so I've been selling off gear that's just been taking up space in the garage. I figure I'd rather the Lynskey take up room in the studio instead. Most of my budget came from selling a set of Vinten sticks and Dedolights. Some upgrades will come from future sales (DV decks, video DA's etc.) I have a kidney and my youngest daughter listed now. Once those sell, I'll have the money I need to go Red.

Congratulations on beating the cancer. Outstanding. You deserve the Lynskey for sure.
Build up on the old Rockhopper til June then ride the hell out of your new ti machine!
By the way, how much of your hamstring did they have to take?

Buying kidney could be a good investment but a young daughter would be a money pit. I'd be better off buying a boat.
Congrats on everything!
I deserve a Lynskey too dammit...

The hamstring is made up of two muscles, one in front and one in back. They took the back muscle (bicep femoris), from butt to knee. It's gone and I've got an awesome scar to show for it! I am truly amazed at the human body, though. As long as I take new things slow, I can hardly tell it's gone. My NFL kicking career is over, but other than that, I can hardly tell it's not there. Will have to start slow on the bike, too. I don't want to injure the other muscles that will now have to do what they were not designed for, but it'll come.

Congratulations on beating the big C. I lost my mom to cancer, and it was the most frightening thing I've ever seen in my life till date. The rapid deterioration from diagnosis to death was astounding to me. And my mom was a fit weekend athlete.
So, as someone earlier pointed out, you only live once, and also no guarantees. I hope you enjoy the Lynskey tremendously.

I didn't do anything a great as beating cancer but after a near death episode is when I decided to get the new Felt I have now. I have to admit there are times I wish I had the money back but over all I am glad I did it. I really enjoy that bike, and I am sure you will too. Good luck.

This. Glad you beat the evil-C-word. I had my brush with the stuff when I was 18, Melanoma, thankfully early enough that it was just a big chunk of my forearm and no chemo. The wait will be worth it, and the wait could be a lot worse. I'm about 24hrs from the nearly 1year wait for my custom Kirk Frameworks from being over. Ride it like you stole it, and they day too.

And I will preach this until the day I die (which hopefully won't be anytime soon!)
I am alive today because I went to the doctor 4 days after I felt what I initially thought was a knot in my muscle. Something just didn't seem right....and deep down inside, I knew something was up. Going to the doctor early SAVED MY LIFE. Please, if you know something is up, IT'S JUST A CO-PAY!!!! GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!! Doctors said that had I waited much longer, it would have been "much more difficult to treat with a much lower survival rate". I think that's doctor-speak for "you're kids wouldn't have a dad anymore". Guys traditionally like to tough things out. It's not worth it.
Thanks for listening.
/end soapbox
Is it June yet?
