SOMEC Yard Sale Find
In "as found" condition. No SOMEC or tubing stickers...full Campy except for brake levers (Shimano 600)...too small for me unfortunantly, but couldn't pass it up...
Small rust spots in some areas, but nothing that I think would affect the integrity of the frame.
Serial Number underneath the bottom bracket - F46.
A couple of snaps from the phone...better ones to come if anyone's interested...

Stupendous score! I'll join the "more pics" chorus, too.
Somec's decals - like Pinarello's - were notoriously fragile. They can be found online, however.
Looking forward to the details; thanks for posting. We don't get to see many Somecs around these parts

Not just the decals. The paint as well. It can fall off if you look at it too long.

prepare for minor hi-jack: I've always noted and been curious about the similarity between the "lotus" logo of SOMEC and (obviously) Lotus.
I wonder if there's a connection?
I have visited and done a quick scan of Snydermann's website devoted to Lotus and he doesn't say what Italian builder was making the few Italian-built Columbus-tube Lotus frames (thought Cinelli gets mentioned but that may be just due to the frame bits).
Anybody know anything that connects the 2?
Snydermann?

Wow what a find!
Speaking of Somec logo, they have a agreement with Ferrari.

The association with Cinelli is described this way from the 1986 catalog, "Through an exclusive association of Lotus and Cinelli Bicycles, we are proud to offer our Design Cinelli racing series for 1986. All three models are made under the direct supervision of Cinelli in Italy."
Now, what that really means, and the reason the Lotus Design Cinelli bicycles are so rare is that each one was completely hand-brazed by Cino Cinelli himself. The "Ferrari Red" Lotus Design Cinelli Record was actually painted on the same Maranello assembly line as the Ferrari Testarossa . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'm just kidding, of course.
The flare and style of the lug cut out on the Somec is similar to the Lotus flower used on the seat stays of the Lotus/Cinelli bikes.

That's very interesting. I wasn't aware of the similarity of the Somec logo and the Lotus logo. I do know Lotus listed their "first use in commerce" of the Lotus flower in 1978, the trademark was applied for in 1982 and it was registered in 1984. However, the logo is listed as a daffodil in the design code of the trademark information .

The SOMEC "lotus" has a stem... maybe I should fixate on stems.
