What is the pros & cons for having more engagement in the rear hub for road rides? I can see the pros for technical offroad but what about road rides?

Probably not that significant. Maybe it's smoother and/or quieter when the pawls catch but I've never really noticed any lack in that area on any of my wheels so color me unconcerned.

what do you mean by more engagement? a free hub with more pawls? keep your free hub really clean should be the first rule of engagement though! i learned the hard way with a three pawl campy hub that got really dirty. the pawls would lay flat and NOT engage and the front chain ring would lurch nearly half way forward....
