T-max intervals

I'm probably late on this one, but I was just reading up on training/intervals, and stumbled upon the 'T-max' interval. If you're unsure if what it is, https://m.bicycling.com/training-nutr...imate-interval

By what it claims, it seems to be, and I quote, "the ultimate interval". Are any of you aware of this interval and do any of you train with it?

I've referenced the original paper numerous times over the years. Fantastic in theory but in reality most athletes prefer to go all out for a set distance (hill or TT distance) or duration(5min, 20min) rather than endure an annoying intensity with no end in sight other than being a quitter.

how is this different from a VO2max interval? albeit you'll be accumulating more lactate on the "on phase" as you'll be working at a level more than what is required to elicit VO2max

Yeah, sounds a lot like VO2max intervals to me.

no, it's a good thread. you weren't sure and you asked a question. that's to be encouraged.

it just sounds as if Bicycling is just plastering on a name on something that's readily known and hope to impress its readers that it came across something new...

That's very true, its a very informative website, I've been reading a ton from it for the past few days, but after learning that the t-max is just vo2 basically explained differently, I looked for it in the others and it seems as if they're all versions of workouts we already know of.. Nonetheless it's a good website to gain information on workouts and ways to go about doing them for beginners.

from their perspective, if they call it by their standard names, there's no reason for people to visit their website

from a broader perspective, it's not the workouts, per se, that's anything special. rather it is the arrangement of workouts that's important (i.e. what a coach does)

Very true. And I guess that's why I have a coach, I have not a clue how to set up training schedules for myself. Lol, thanks.

Irrc it should be the minimum power required to reach VO2max. Most can do that for about 6 to 8 min when properly motivated. This would mean 3.6 to 4.8 min intervals which certainly sounds like plain VO2 intervals but because of the personalization this protocol may allow you to fit more "quality time" into each workout.
