Top ten reasons for bike lanes
1. All that snow has to go somewhere
2. Good place to store glass from car accidents till the street sweepers get here next year.
3. Joggers, because it is called a side walk and not a side jog.
4. Police officer parking
5. BMW parking for late night booty call. (now that I have a fat tire I'm thinking of running right over the top of that car one night)
6. Good place to open the car door without looking for passing traffic
7. Service and delivery truck parking, don't want to stop traffic.
8. All of those leaves hiding the sticks have to go somewhere until pickup.
9. Trash cans on garbage day.
I need one more to make a t-shirt, suggestions?

O, beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It is the green-ey'd monster, which doth mock
The meat it feeds on. That cuckold lives in bliss,
Who, certain of his fate, loves not his wronger:
But O, what damnèd minutes tells he o'er
Who dotes, yet doubts, suspects, yet strongly loves!

The edge breaks up first so the lower class road users get first dibs at the potholes.

bike lanes are where you install grates, sewer lines, internet fiber, and piping so you don't disrupt the smoothness of the road used by *real* traffic.

The lack of sweepers cleaning up glass and other debris is my biggest problem with most of the bike lanes here. I knew someone that had regular road bike tires and was here visiting her brother. She got 5 flats in less than two weeks.
If the bike lanes are not going to maintained, I'd rather not have them because if they exist and you aren't in them, the cagers will not be happy (since they probably won't realize why you aren't using them).

It provide the police an excuse to ticket us for riding outside the bike lane regardless of the 10 previous reasons.

I always wonder if ...
When the city doesn't have enough money to fix potholes and crumbling pavement, they just get some paint and create bike lanes.

Yeah, them too, but you would be surprised at how many people wear their green out on there sleeve as a mere status symbol, while dissing us on bikes that are actually doing more. I was once told to get on the sidewalk by a guy in a Toyota with Obama and "coexist" bumper stickers.

Oh the "coexist" crowd...... days of rants there.
- Great for efficient right turns by dump trucks
- Tremendous orange barrel storage to be moved in and out to start or end work days
- Certainly not for bikes, that's silly!

...even though there's no law (in this city at least) that bikes have to stay in the bike lanes. They're supposed to keep drivers out, not bicycles in. But that's clearly asking too much; see #4.

This reminds me of Duct Tape, which can be used for anything... except Ducts...
