Tracking bike/component mileage?
How are you tracking the mileage on your bikes and corresponding components. I'm currently using the "My Gear" funtionality on Strava, but I find it lacking in a lot of ways. I like the features on Bikejournal (it lets you rotate tires, move wheels, etc.), but the site is so antiquated. Is there something like that only oriented towards integration with GPS devices?

I use my calibrated eyeballs.
When I see the cords on my tires, I replace them. When the chain seems worn out, I replace it.

Acutally if one rides a lot, having something remind you to start watching for cords, chain wear, etc. is not overthinking IMO. It sucks to to roll in to start a 100 mile club ride toward the end of a 200 mile week only to realize you needed to change out a tire. A little reminder comes in pretty handy.
I see winter is hitting some people pretty hard in the attitude department...

I never did, but now the internet's obsession with facts and figures has gotten me curious. So last tune up I started one. We'll see what the future brings.

I just use an excel spreadsheet to track mileage. When I change tires or components I include that in my log so I can always look up how long this or that lasted. However, I dont use the log to tell me when its time to change something - that is determined based on wear: tires - wear indicators gone or threads showing; chain - stretch measurement nearing limit; etc. I do have a maintenance and lube setting on my bike computer that I set at 100 miles for lube - 300 miles for maintenance. However, I rarely do anything according to that schedule because I do address things when needed. So I end up constantly re-setting the computer reminder and telling my self I need to figure out how to turn it off.

I also just use the my gear functionality in Strava. It's only a tedious 20 seconds having to re-default the bike I'm going to ride on a particular day. But I found that it keeps much better records than I could ever keep with an .xlsx file.
I wish you could un-retire the retired gear. That's my only complaint, really. I swap cranks and cassettes a lot depending on ride.
