Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Show Me Your EVO - Especially Current Models

I'm getting ready to pounce on an Evo and I'm a bit torn on color/build. The images on the website have a white background and it's hard to see what they look like in the real world and my shop doesn't have any new models yet. I'm mainly looking at the DA2 because I like the team color but I like the build of DA1 (though moving out of my price range) but not so much the white/black color. The DA2 also comes in a dark grey.

If you made any mods to yours please let me know. Wondering about the RS81 wheels on the DA2 which I'll probably end up replacing eventually anyway.

Thanks.

Wow! I love it I was going to get the 2013 team colors but that one is seriously neat! I'll up you one and submit my Rabo! I think they would compliment each other very well in the same stable.

Sorry for the unrelated post. Just want to see them back to back.

No current EVO. Stopped building them in 1998. This one is 18 years old with 145,000 miles. Oh, wrong cycling forum, sorry

Very nice Evos. How would you describe the ride quality? Have you done long rides (> 80 miles)?

Keep 'em coming.

I rode my buddy's SS Evo Hi Mod around a parking lot (wanted to try Di2 for the first time). It was way too small for me but the ride was smoother than my Madone. I don't think I've ever read a review that had anything negative to say about Evos, either regular or hi mod.

Not done 80+ yet, but I've done 65. Ride is awesome! Very smooth and responsive. The bike handles very well, I love to let it rip down the side of a mountain and carve up some pavement.

Some tool on another thread claimed the EVO was a harsh ride. I was all over that...he obviously never rode one. My 14 EVO 3 is on lay way. But I rode a friend's and loved it.

Bikerjp - I see you have a CAAD9-4. I also have a CAAD9-4 (2010), although I have made a lot of changes. I also have a 2013 Supersix EVO Hi-Mod Red Racing. On the CAAD I am running Campagnolo Shamal Ulta 2-Way Fit wheels with Hutchinson Fusion 3 tubeless at 90 PSI front, 100 PSI rear. On the EVO I am running the stock Vision TC24 carbon tubular wheels with Veloflex Carbon tubulars at the same pressures. I have a Fizik Aliante Carbon saddle with carbon rails and Fizik Cyrano carbon seat post on both bikes. I find that they ride very similar. There is a touch more road vibration to be felt on the CAAD, but the difference isn't large. I feel the EVO turns in quicker than the CAAD. The biggest difference is acceleration; the EVO is simply much easier to get up to speed. Both are aggressive race bikes. Since you were originally looking at a new Synapse Carbon before you considered an EVO, IMHO you need to evaluate your priorities carefully. The new Synapse is reportedly much more "race" oriented than the previous version. I would try to ride both, back to back, if at all possible. They are both great bikes, but one thought that keeps coming back to me every time I ride the CAAD is what a great bike it still is.

2014 SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod - Team Edition. I bought just the frameset and swapped the components over from my previous bike. The frame looks amazing in person. Pictures don't do it justice (especially the crappy pic I just uploaded).

Thanks for the feedback - especially the ride vs the Caad. Even if I wait until summer there is no guarantee the shop would have both bikes for me to test ride. However, having a Caad and a Synapse I think I can approximate the ride of each of the new bikes. I'm sure the new Synapse is a great bike but I'm not sold on the look. I know that should be secondary to fit and ride quality, but I really don't think the difference will be that great. I'm sizing up from my Caad (58 Caad to 60 Evo) to better approximate the fit of the Synapse so I don't think fit will be an issue. My biggest concern was that the Evo would be harsh or uncomfortable over long distances. I'm no pro and 4-6 hours or more on any bike is going to be felt. Based on feedback from a variety of sources I think it's safe to say the Evo will be comfortable enough. Beyond that, my main priority is to get a kick-ass, fun bike. I think the Evo fits the bill.

Those are cool. I want one that says "shut up legs" or maybe "dialing it up to 400 watts".

I have a CAAD10 and an Evo, your comments here mirror my own experiences quite well!

Ride quality was noticeably smoother than both my 2013 Orca Silver and my 2012 Superisx 5. It literally felt like going from a Honda with cut springs (for "performance") to a BMW 7-series. Honestly, it is the best ride quality I've experienced, and I don't even have the hi-mod version.

I've only been able to do one outside ride on mine so far, but it was a 70 miler. Ride quality was great. I'm coming off a Tarmac SL4, and I could tell it's stiffer than that bike. Especially on accelerations on climbs. The stiffness translates to a little stiffer ride on rough roads, but I didn't have a problem with it.

Thanks again for the feedback. I put a deposit on my Evo today. It will be couple months before it ships but with the negative temps and crummy roads I guess that's okay.

Surly there are some more Evos out there. Let's see 'em.

Nice. What wheels are those? Same color I ordered. Is that the "team" model with the vision wheels or did you build it with Red and buy wheels? Although, I guess there was another model that shipped with Red.
