It's a great way to inherit someone else's athletes foot fungus....

Kind of like buying someones' used riding shorts or bibs.

Yuck and no thanks.

$270 sounds reasonable for these shoes, but I'm not a "laces" guy.

They do look quite retro! Personally, I need something with traction; I can barely walk as it is!
Guess that's why I use MTB shoes, but... they've got one of those fancy dancy ratcheting buckles
like 'modern' road shoes do!

These are the real retro shoes, nearly 40 years old and still in use.

Those Bontrager's aren't even real leather. I bought these around '92 or '93, still wear them regularly.

Personally I'm lusting after a pair of DZR "Tosca" riding shoes. Great look for Autumn in Portland!

In addition, I've been known to cycle in high heels! Leather, but not vintage.

My neighbor does that sometimes on her commute.

Well worth getting up early for as she launches her Surly Steamroller into traffic.

@gomango - sounds like hearty entertainment to start your day! Actually though, I usually wear cycling specific/lifestyle shoes.

It was already in my mind as I read your post...

Somebody sort of tried here, but methinks it's in the wrong forum, so let's try one here.

At that price I'd spring for some Dromarti/Maressi Italian leather shoes:

Or even better, grab a lightly used pair on eBay for $70, which I just did.

At $270, that's two pairs of Air Jordans...

Or 56 Big Macs

I like to ride in Crocs or Teva sandals. My wife shudders when she sees me leave the house wearing Crocs and socks.

Vittoria makes a relatively affordable lace up leather cycling shoe compared to the likes of Dromarti, Quoc Pham, etc.

Why buy anything Bontrager after the brand was absorbed by Trek? Garbage components and kit for the most part.

$270.00??.....Reasonable???..... No thanks!.....
Even at $170, I'd say the price is too high...... and it's not even real leather on those shoes!

i think that's also "in the works" ^...not to make excuses (for the high price or anything), but Clarino is a pretty sophisticated product, made from a unique microfiber resin, not PVC (nor PU or the other common synthetics used to make "pleather" in the past). Doesn't make it superior to the highest grade natural leather in ALL cases, but for some it's actually better.
YRMV, and I still wear real leather shoes including cycling shoes, mostly.
