This. Done it for years as part of my regular work outs. Stretch brakes on longer rides. Fighting the stiffness of age is a big part of the battle.
And besides, it feels darn good.

I don't see why it has to be one or the other. I do both depending on circumstances. I suspect we all challenge ourselves some times, according to our abilities and inclinations.

When I turned 50 I was just getting used to being 40. Now I'm pushing 70 and I'm still not used to 50.
