Flush with any spray solvent (original WD-40 actually does work great) while working over and over, then spray in grease. I use spray white lithium, but others are likely just as good.

Plus one to the comment about tubeless rims. I have had both tubeless and tubefull?? rims, and I have not noticed a large in ease of tire replacement.

I have experienced the same with sudden, strong crosswinds on my 40mm carbon wheelset. It never happened with my old alloys, so it is most certainly the fault of the wheels.

This sounds a bit odd, but I have had great luck combing local ads to find a complete bike that has a great aftermarket wheelset. You buy the bike, swap wheels with your son's, then put it back on...
