This is exactly what happened to a friend's Cannondale EVO a couple months ago, when he ran into a curb. And the wheel and fork were fine. He was shattered though - the bike was a month old!

What others have said about riding a bigger gear over rough roads. But also keep in mind that, when tired, sometimes increasing effort and pace can temporarily help to reduce the feeling of fatigue...

Agreed. There is no way I could do intervals on most of my rides. One day of intervals and one or two hard group rides per week. The rest is all base miles.
