If you had a frayed cable I'm going to guess it was at the head. How did you get it out? May still be something jamming up the shifter. Other than your standard cable adjustment I can't think of...

Might just need a small cable adjustment. As noted above, your bike store should be able to handle this at no cost. Now, if you've had a mishap that would be a different story.
