Have you considered modifying your mountain bikes to be lighter/more efficient? If they're hardtails, you could replace suspension forks with light carbon forks, then swap knobby mtb tires with large...

This is my reasoning as well. I like a faster rear tire as long as it has decent climbing traction, paired with a nice aggressive front tire.

milesf Part of your issue with wearing out the rear...

I think that specific model of Rekon would be a safe bet. EXO for puncture protection + MaxxSpeed has good rolling resistance/treadwear rating. MaxxSpeed probably gives up some grip for improved...

I've had good look with the Rekon as a rear tire on my main trail bike (paired with a more aggressive front tire). Do you also run a WTB Ranger on the front? Because that could influence...

At that price point, I'd be looking at a steel hardtail frame instead. You can often find Kona Honzo ST frames for about that same amount (~$400 USD). Even if it's heavier than carbon, the ride...

As opposed to what, hydraulic rim brakes???

Anyway...if you're able to get the brakes adjusted, then they eventually go back out of adjustment, there might be an issue with pistons sticking....

It's possible my perception is influenced by where I live...mountain bike inventory has been very tough to come by here in SoCal, with very few MTBs on shop floors. And that seems to be reflected in...

It's been mentioned already, but bike availability is practically non-existent. Especially at this price point. Lots of good options for ~$1500 hardtails, but a quick search shows 'out of stock' on...

Yeah, even with cable and housing, mechanical X01 is still nearly 1/2 pound lighter according to SRAM's published weights.

If it's any consolation, you probably can't actually get your hands on...
