Brain is a little heavier material but rides nice. Sport tour type frame should be good on longer rides. Used bikes usually have a markup to absorb a fair offer.

They do collect grime and it wouldn't hurt to squirt spray lube in there. Any shifter that has some age will. Nice find.

I felt bad leaving one at a garage sale for 5 bucks but after a $100 investment in parts it just wouldn't be worth dealing with. $1500 is a wacky price.

8 speed xt had great derailleurs but the shifters weren't the most reliable. You will need the brake shift combo unless you have a set of levers....
