and yes u def have to consider your effective top tube and stem length, as another member mentioned, some want to be more...

on the descents he catches speeds upwards of 40mph

if u take the bike path on the beach from marina to hermosa watch the speed limit and as you might already know, theres a short strip at the strand where u need to walk your bike when it gets busy...

i dont have an onboard cyclecomp so yea i ride with my iP4 in my back pocket running the Cyclemeter ap...no problems battery life is still in the 5-6hr range including email,text and voice calls
