With race rules adding minimum bike weights, there's literally no advantage to 2x, it's an amusing "red bikes are faster than black bikes" fashion...

I'd bet of people who buy a < $1,000 bike, like 80% of them never use the front derailler and are basically riding 1x9 or...

My opinion is similar to the OP's.

Triples are great, I can sit in the middle front rung for 80%-99% of the ride depending on terrain.

1x sounds pretty cool. I haven't been willing to fork...
