After rebuilding a wheel and putting back into the dropouts, my hub is now slipping in 1st gear. It's an SRAM i3.

Do I need flat wrenches (unsure of proper term) to remove the ring nut on a single speed freewheel or can I use normal chrome (slightly thicker) wrenches?

So if I get a 18T it can go on either side. I suppose there is an existing freewheel mechanism that I can just unscrew the existing cog from?

Without a torque wrench, is there a rough rule of thumb as to how tight to do up the nights?

From what I can find the only place to tighten a headset is on the top of the quill stem (allen key top bolt).
I remember on older bikes having to also turn the 2 large nuts further down the stem...
