it's not insane, it's just stupid, but yes, the 11 speed road shifters are apparently "r9," the 11 speed gravel shifters are "gr9"

the rear derailleurs likewise have the same confusing naming...

I have their 11 speed road shifters on order, for my own road bike (going 1x11). It appears that these gravel shifters are identical to the road versions, just without the left shift lever.
