1981 Trek 710s are great bikes. I'm a big fan.

I have a '85 Miyata 1000. It is a terrific bike. I am modernizing it as well with brifters, new 130mm wide wheels, 9-speed.
I think it's worth it.

I have a set of modern Ultegra hubs laced to Open Pros. They have been trouble free. I have 28mm tires on them and it serves on a commuter bike. Great value in my opinion.
