a good wd40ing and let it sit for a while. Then wipe off and use a little heat on your lock ring. Once of be sure that there is no wd40 left on cassette etc.

'lo there. what you have there is a costerbrake hub. If you've never repaired them before you would save a lot of time and suffering by getting a used replacement. There a dime a dozen, cheap or free.

frozen grease

I found that the grease doesn't freeze per-say but it does get darn thick feeling at around -45 C.
