I got knocked off my bike riding 45s in 60mph gusts. Yeah, it was pretty stupid to ride in those conditions, and shallower wheels probably wouldn't have made much difference. That said, "deep" wheels...

That was a caused by a catastrophic crank failure...

That was a caused by a catastrophic crank failure on the first Venge at around 5K miles, not by gradual abrasion. The second (re)Venge is still intact (although missing some components at the moment)

I didn't read the thread, but if you have to brake to the point where it may make a difference, you are doing it wrong. If you want to put spare wheels in the pit, you probably want rim brakes.
