Beta blockers are a poor choice for aerobic athletes, as they substantially reduce aerobic fitness and exercise tolerance.
There are alternative drugs that are more appropriate for athletes. If my cardiologist prescribed beta blockers, I would run (not walk) to get a second opinion from a sports cardiologist.
